Shift Groups

Shift Groups are configured in RotaMaster so that they can be assigned to shifts, allowing users to set up rules against shifts with a certain Shift Group. Alternatively, the Allocation Wizard can be configured to run  just shifts with certain Shift Groups, to ensure that certain shifts are filled first, for example. 

They usually describe the time of day a shift takes place, or the type of shift that it is. Examples are Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night, or On Call, OOH Support. 

 

Shift Groups are configured under the Rota > Rota Settings, as shown below;

To add a new Shift Group select Shift Groups and click on the Add button.

The following window will be displayed:

Shift Group

Field to add the name of the new Shift Group.

Shift Category

Field to select the Shift Category that the Shift Group will be linked with. In practice, this does not affect much in the system. 

Weighting

Not Used.

Description

Field to add a description for the new Shift Group.

Colour

Can be colour coded, for use in Schedule View and Weekly Rota Viewer

Bank

(Bank+ Only) Marks a Shift Group as being available for Bank+

Primary Bank

(Bank+ Only) Marks a shift Group as the Primary Bank Shift Group

Non-Contracted

Ticking this excludes shifts with this Group assigned from being included in contracted hours calculations in reports and the Allocation Wizards

Once completed click on the Save button.

Now that a Shift Group has been created, this can be assigned to shifts in Shift Pattern Manager or in the View Rota screen. Click on each option to see how to assign Shift Groups to shifts. 

If a Shift Group is no longer used it can be hidden. To do this select the relevant Group and press "Hide":

If the Group is not being used in the live system you will be prompted to enter your RotaMaster Password to confirm the Hide. Once you have entered your password the Group will be removed from the list. 

If it is being used in live shifts you will get this notification:

Pressing 'Export' will show you a list of places where it is being used, allowing you to remove that group from shifts. 

Hidden Shift Groups can be un-hidden by ticking the Show Hidden box in the bottom left hand corner of the screen:

All hidden shift groups will show greyed out in the list, to un-hide one select the relevant group name and press unhide.
